College Is A Waste Of Time And Money Critical Analysis

The value of a college education has been scrutinized for years, in “Stop Scaring Students,” by Devorah Lieberman and “College Is a Waste of Time and Money,” by Caroline Bird, both authors give their detailed opinions on the value of college and give insight to both sides of the argument. College can be extremely rewarding for some students but they do not always take into consideration the hardships that occur in college, and in return tend to feel overwhelmed in debt and upset that they are not needed, all students should understand these consequences before rushing into college. Both Lieberman and Bird establish their views about the value of college in their text and can be of great help to any student weighing the benefits and the risk.
As can be seen in “Stop Scaring Students” Lieberman argues that students should be encouraged and supported to go to college, because in the long run it is an investment that will pay off. In her research there is evidence that once students are in college they become depressed, not all students are entering college for a higher education, and the belief that all students will benefit from college is untrue. For these reasons, Bird strongly believes that college is not worth the risk of being unhappy and in debt.
