The value of a college education has been scrutinized for years, in “Stop Scaring Students,” by Devorah Lieberman and “College Is a Waste of Time and Money,” by Caroline Bird, both authors give their detailed opinions on the value of college and give insight to both sides of the argument. College can be extremely rewarding for some students but they do not always take into consideration the hardships that occur in college, and in return tend to feel overwhelmed in debt and upset that they are not needed, all students should understand these consequences before rushing into college. Both Lieberman and Bird establish their views about the value of college in their text and can be of great help to any student weighing the benefits and the risk.
As can be seen in “Stop Scaring Students” Lieberman argues that students should be encouraged and supported to go to college, because in the long run it is an investment that will pay off. It is clear that Lieberman is an activist for college and strongly believes in the value of a college education, to clarify her views she states “All students need a healthy dose of learning opportunities that build the skills and capacities that will support

To emphasize her views Bird shares her research which shows that not all students belong in college. In her research there is evidence that once students are in college they become depressed, not all students are entering college for a higher education, and the belief that all students will benefit from college is untrue. For these reasons, Bird strongly believes that college is not worth the risk of being unhappy and in debt. Another key point that bird focuses on is the fact that Americans today are more concerned with their job than the pay, they desire a psychic income. Overall Bird is against students believing that everyone is fit for college and they have to go to college to have a decent

In the United States of America today there seems to be this expectation that one must go to college or they are considered unsuccessful and looked down upon. There are numerous reasons I believe college is not for everyone. Every person is unique, school may not be there thing, and in my opinion, there is nothing wrong with a person going directly into the work force after high school. Also college degrees are becoming worth less and less as more people attend college and end up in careers that have nothing to do with their degree or dropping out which is ultimately wasting their own and the government’s money. A majority of kids chose to go away to college for the “social aspect” so they say, which we know just means partying and drinking.…

Many students feel like some of the classes they must take will not get them jobs that will help them pay back their student loans. No matter how much Sanders might think he is going to help by offering free tuition, some students will take that and get to college and not do their work. As far as community college, many of my students told me that if it were free it would attract slackers who would not be serious about their education and cause problems in the classroom (Giordano). Sanders would have Hillary Clinton look over all his positions. Also, Sanders revived socialism from history because of anger towards Wall Street.…

When is College your Friend When growing up, college has been so ingrained in my family that the idea of not doing so never even occurred to me. However for others, attending college has become one of the most paramount decisions in our life as a result of its extensive potential for consequence of both favorable and not. Due to its deeply controversial nature, the answer is not just in black and white. In Caroline Bird’s article “College is a Waste of Time and Money”, she has created a sensational work, but one that simply can’t hold up to scrutiny upon a closer inspection. Bird’s stance is not at all an invalid one, nonetheless, many of her attacks were simply inappropriate.…

College Is Not the Key to Success In College is a Waste of Time and Money by Caroline Bird she explains how college was a good place for a few kids that were drawn to their academic work, but now it is stupid for kids to go to college when all they are doing is wasting their time and money. Bird is right, the only reason they go to college is to make their parents happy not for the education part. She explains that young adults in college are sad, mostly because they are just thrown into the real world without knowing what is going to happen next. They do not know what is best for them so they think going to college will help them get a better job in the long run. Most teachers, engineers, and even nurses said they do not use what they…

If an individual is serious about school and intends to get a degree they will use in life, the stress and long hours will be well worth it, but for a student who is not interested in college or who doesn 't need a degree for the career the individual has chosen, college is a waste of their time and money. In "What 's Wrong With Vocational Schools?" Charles Murray states "Large numbers of those who are intellectually qualified for college do not yearn for four years of college-level courses they go to college because their parents are paying for it and college is what children of their social class are supposed to do after they finish high school." Someone who does not like the idea of college but who is going anyway to please those around them can get very depressed because he/she is not pursuing what makes them happy in life. We should not let ourselves get pressured into doing something that isn 't right for us just because society says so.…

I think both Trudeau and Reeves believe that college students do not understand how important a college education is. Another point both of these authors think is that college is not for everyone and that every person should not have the right to attend any college that they please. Some colleges spend more money on remedial classes for students, because those students do not put any effort into their education to eventually make the world a better place. Trudeau and Reeves make a major point in both of their essays that are similar. Both Trudeau and Reeves believe that even though students attend class, some of them do not put in the additional time and effort to make the class beneficial for them.…

There are for sure many positives to attending college, as well as many negatives. Throughout college there are a variety of different skills and experiences to gain, which would never be discovered without going to college.
