The three things that he pointed out about intelligence are that it’s diverse, dynamic, and distinct. Each person’s intelligence is shown in different ways. People discourage other peoples’ intelligence that may not fit the current norm of intelligence. Ken Robinson shared an example of Gillian Lynne. She struggled in school and could not sit still. When her mother took her to the doctor to see what was wrong with her, the doctor said that she was a dancer. When she found her talent she became a professional dancer. A current doctor would diagnose her with ADHD and her talent would have never been recognized. In the TED talk Schwartz said, “Practical wisdom is the combination of moral will and moral skill.” People have the will to do the right thing and they have the skills to figure out what doing right means, which is practical wisdom. The definition of intelligence is the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills. This shows that intelligence and practical wisdom basically mean the same thing. Schwartz gave an example of how teachers are not able to use practical wisdom or their intelligence to teach children. In schools today, kindergarten teachers are told what to say and how to teach the children. They aren’t given the opportunity to use their creativity in teaching the lesson or the chance to use practical wisdom and intelligence. The do not have the chance to use practical wisdom because they are being told how to teach the lesson, so they do not have the chance to use their moral will and skill to make and plan their own lesson. The do not have the chance to use intelligence because they are not able to apply the knowledge and skills that they have acquired; they simply teach the lesson the way they are told to teach
