Cynical and moody, John Lennon was original in his beliefs. As a child, John grew up in his Aunt Mimi’s house after a divorce from his mother and father. John’s father was not involved in his life after that, making his mother even more cherished. John’s mother bought him his first guitar and inspired a love of music in him that carried on past adolescence. John was seventeen when his mother was hit and killed by a drunk police officer and this death left him scorned against authority and established a bitter chord inside the man. In John’s songs women, love, and rebellion against society are addressed as well as worldwide equality, which is proven in his song Imagine. In Imagine John sings “You may say I 'm a dreamer/But I 'm not the only one/I hope someday you 'll join us/And the world will be as one” in this song a peaceful utopia is described where everyone lives together. John’s use of drugs helped open his eyes and led him to further his hippie ideals. The song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds describes a halogenic trip and the title itself is an acronym for LSD. The opening verse to Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds goes “Picture yourself in a boat on a river/With tangerine trees and marmalade skies/Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly/A girl with kaleidoscope eyes” John, as a propagandist, preached peace and uprisings against governments in the later years …show more content…
The product of the Lennon-McCartney duo left a mark on music that will never be matched. The two wrote songs that defined a generation and brought a new genre to music. The Beatles are the most successful music group in history, but they would not have been as successful without John or Paul. The Beatles sang over 50 years ago, but new generations continue to buy and celebrate their music in 2015. John and Paul will go down in history as two of the most influential musicians of all time as they were equal in musicianship. Ideologies and egos may have split up The Beatles but the music they made can never be
