Women’s identity somehow became too hard to be found out, some women let themselves down by losing hopes but still there were some who wanted themselves to be recognized. Women do not demand the role of a man they want themselves to be known as a woman but with dignity and respect.
Harryette Mullen also promoted women’s identity and encouraged women. In her poem “Shedding Skin”, she demonstrates and discusses another perspective of women’s identity. She inspires women to change their images and opinions. In her poem, she states that:
“Pulling out of the old scarred skin”
Here she guides women to change their skin i.e. their visualization. She wants women to look in the future as a fresh new image of their life. She wants them to bring changes in their opinions and their thoughts. Mullen also states that,
“And I’m blinking off old eyelids
For a new way of seeing”
These lines have a very strong diction, covering up all the courage and motivation, which Mullen is trying to give to her readers. “Blinking off old eyelids”, explains that she wants the old visions to be removed. She wants new visions and new scopes, not the new eyes. She wants the women to conquer the light of
