She writes about death like it is a person, guiding her to her final destination. In the first stanza, it shows that Emily seems to be too busy for death, so death “kindly” stops for her. Through each stanza you can see that Dickinson is not afraid of death, she is content with what is happening and writes quite calmly about it. In the poem, the narrator says that she died for beauty. Then, the person who is laid to rest next to her explains that they had died for truth. The person who died for truth is confused why he died, because he thought that he could live forever if he spoke the truth. Then the person who died for beauty says to them that she spent her life perusing beauty but she ended up dead, just like him. “Though both people buried in the tombs lived for something they believed in, they both ended up dying and being buried next to one another. The one who lived for Truth may think his life was worth more because he valued Truth over Beauty, but in the end, it doesn't matter what he believed in because no matter what he believes, he is still going to die.” (I Died for
