The third line of Canty’s poem, Fig.3 installation says, “03 Red Shift. Lily est une rose est une rose rouge.”. When interpreted, it means Lili is a rose is a red rose. In this case, Canty uses the color red as a way to emphasize her robust and prominent personality. Where also the seventh poem installation says, “07 Red Shift. Le monde et elle, frais comme une rose qui est, qui est.”. Translated it means the world and her, fresh as a rose is who she is. In fact, the color red is quite vibrant and intense which I believe is how she wants to portray herself to her audience. Canty even mentions the color twice in that it verse to accentuate the use of red as a powerful tool. The color red is a warm and positive color associated with our most physical needs and our will to survive. It exudes a strong and powerful masculine energy. …show more content…
The fourth line in the poem, Fig.4 installation says, “04 Red Shift. La vie des étoiles n’est pas la nôtre. Leurs morts tapissent le fond des temps.”. Interpreted freely, it means that the stars life (a reference to fame) does not belong to us and their deaths are lining up until the end of time. I believe Canty wants to evocate the stars as a path of everyone in that industry that wants to reach fame. In fact, this need of always reaching out for more is taking a toll on them and is slowly destroying them. This fact is explained by his use of the word death in the verse and how it is lining up to
