There used to be a cross dressing homeless man named Leslie Cochran who lived here that recently passed away. He was so full of life, happy and he always spoke his mind. He became such a local icon that businesses and dishes are now being named after him. He was a vital part of Austin’s Culture and I believe that goes for all homeless people.
Austin homeless people are vital to our culture. I don't know how I'd feel if I walked to school and there was no homeless guy sleeping on the bench at my bus stop. Or if I worked a night shift at Whataburger and I didn’t see a woman sleeping on one of the booths in the corner. It would be so weird. Did you know that Austin has approximately 2,200 homeless people and almost ⅔ are completely un-sheltered?
