An Analysis Of Arranged Marriages In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet

Decent Essays
In Romeo and Juliet Lord Capulet tells Juliet she is getting married she denies. Getting married is a very hard and life changing thing. There are many different ways to go into marriages. Arranged marriages should not be chosen by the child’s parent because the children may not know one another, and the children may not want to marry yet.
The child may not know the other person. If the children do not know one another then how will they get along and how do u know they will like one another. They could really just despite each other. Just plain not get along and you are forcing them to get married. In my opinion I don’t think that is right.
What if the child does not want to get married. Maybe they don’t think that they are ready.

According to the article, “Will Your Marriage Last?” by Brooke Lea Foster, there are many factors that come into play when it comes to having a happy, successful marriage and avoiding divorce. On the other hand, Foster states that there are more factors that may distress a marriage thus leading to divorce rather than maintaining a happy marriage. Some factors that lead to divorce are interracial marrying, moving in prior to marrying, and having a child (Foster 107). I can agree with Foster that it is surprising to find out that moving in with your partner prior to marriage would lead to feeling like they are forced into a life long commitment rather than choosing to be in one. I find this to be extremely surprising considering that living together before marrying would be beneficial in seeing whether the partnership would work out.…

We can apply STANDPOINT THEORY to this interaction between Noah and Allie. Allie finds herself in love with two very different people. Noah, who was her first love, and was the one that her family didn’t approve of because they felt that he was “trash” and not “suitable” for her. Lon, who is her current love and fiancé, and happens to be very wealthy and the type of man that her family finds suitable for her. Allie is in love with both men but doesn’t know what she is going to do or how she will pick between the man with the social status that she knows her family approves of and wants for her or picking the man that her family has already decided wasn’t good enough for her.…

The decision that I found to be particularly hasty was Romeo's decision to commit suicide. I believe that this decision was impulsive and fueled by Romeo's emotions. It lead to not only his death but his lover Juliet as well. If Romeo had been more thoughtful instead of letting his grief and desperate thoughts overwhelm him, he could of created a different ending for the play, one not as tragic. Before Romeo made such a decision, he had been waiting for Friar Lawrence in Mantua to send him news of the uplifting sorts when Balthazar had told him that Juliet had died.…

The love Romeo and Juliet is known to be based on desires, which influences families and genders in a patriarchy society. Dymphna C. Callaghan essay on “The Ideology of Romantic” argues that the desires in romantic love are benign, and the feeling of love presents as evanescent. Furthermore, the desires in romantic love are based on social conditions and constraints. In this critical response essay, I plan to broach two subjects of desires that Callaghan conjures – the social mechanism through which desire is produce and the topic of Wayward female desire.…
