Against School Gatto Analysis

The title of John Taylor Gatto 's writing piece "Against School" speaks for itself. Students are often against the education teachers are trying to give them and are also against the school system. Purposely though, the school system is made to put students education level at a certain point and up to that point is where their education stops, for the most cases. The work assigned, such as homework given to students are very low level of education. This leads to homework be non-difficult and requires students to think very little. "And the overwhelming majority of assignments required only low-level thinking and almost not extended writing or application of ideas. " (Santelises 39) Homework is not the only factor that leads students to obey the education system on trying to keep their education leveled. By students rebelling to the little education they can get from the teachers who are trying to teach them, they prove that over all, the education system can dumb them down and keep them in a certain level. It is expected for students not to over achieve and just hit a certain mark when it comes down to their education. It is also known that teachers will purposely teach students to memorize a certain assignment to help them do good on their test.
