As I did my research, I came across three African-American women who co-founded this movement, Alicia Garza, Opal Tometi, and Patrisse Cullors. Alicia Garza, is an activist and a writer from Oakland California. She focuses on issues such as rights for domestic workers, student services and right, ending police brutality, anti-racism and violences against trans and gender non-conforming colored people. She has been awarded the credit for coming up with the name Black Lives Matter, in which we all know today.
Opal Tometi, is also an activist and a writer.Tometi is the Executive Director for the Black Alliance for Justice Immigrants. She resides in New York and does work all across the country to help fight against anti-immigrant sentiment and regression immigration bills. Tometi has been credited to taking care of everything that has to do with social media for the movement.
Patrisse Cullors, is an artist, an activist, and a play writer. She is an advocate for criminal justice reforms in Los Angeles. She was called to the movement after her 19 year old brother was being brutalized in Los Angeles County jails. After the death of Trayvon Martin, when George Zimmerman got away with murder, and dead 17 year-old was put on trial for his own murder case. Black Lives Matter was a call to action and a response to the anti-Black racism that vigorously controls the minds of society today.
Motive
What is the motive behind Black lives Matter and what do they hope to accomplish? This is an important question because there is a reason for everything that we do and I find it important that we know what Black Lives Matter activist are hoping to accomplish.
Black Lives Matter is working for a world where Black lives are no longer systematically and intentionally targeted for demise. We affirm our contributions to this society, our humanity, and our resilience in the face of deadly oppression. We have put our sweat equity and love for Black people into creating a political project–taking the hashtag off of social media and into the streets.”

How White People React Many of the people saying “All Lives Matter” also are fond of saying “Blue Lives Matter.” If you find that the statement “Black Lives Matter” bothers you, but not “Blue Lives Matter,” then the operative word is “Black”.
