Freedom is a word that lots of people desire. Freedom is not only meant physically free, it also points to the freedom of the soul. It seems like we are always restricted by something: unlimited homework, family, even children in the future. As the result, we should be more independent. I cannot say that freedom has the necessary relationship with independent, but somehow, we can link them together. Just like “The story of an hour” by Kate Chopin and “An act of vengeance” by Isabel Allende. He thinks his daughter does not deserve to stand by his side and protect his or their house together. This reflects that girls are always weaker than the boy is a traditional thought already to get into people’s mind deeply. Mrs. Mallard is a lady who lives under a stable environment. There is no war and no fight in this town. Everything seems like nice and peaceful. “There were patches of blue sky showing here and there through the clouds that met and piled one above the other(Page 90, line 3)” can also let us sense the peace float in the air. The open window in the article is symbolizing the window toward to the freedom and opportunities. The one thing that she desired to be a new life.
