An Abundance of Katherines by John Green is a brilliant yet complex novel. The book answers the questions of why doesn’t the one I thought could love me, doesn’t? What would happen if I was left alone? What would happen if I didn’t matter or I won’t be remembered? The author, John Green, writes a story so compelling that it makes you want to keep reading and never stop. The book takes place in Gutshot Tennessee where the main character, Colin Singleton and his bestfriend Hassan end up during their road trip. Colin Singleton has been in too many relationships with the same girls named Katherine, he gets dumped by all nineteen of them and yes they are all alike with the same personality. He questions himself too much about life, love and how he can be remembered by everyone in the world because he wants to be acceptional. Colin and his friend Hassan end up in Gutshot,Tennessee where they meet Lindsey Lee wells. As they stay in Gutshot over the summer, things become quite interesting. Colin Singleton is a bright young man yet complicated character. Colin is heartbroken over the fact that nineteen characters broke up with him over the years so he has questioned himself and even made a theorem for how he can end break-ups. He wants to predict the future and be happy so he doesn’t have to worry in life. Colin learned that “the future will erase everything--there’s no level of fame or genius that allows you to transcend oblivion. “The infinite future makes that kind of mattering impossible.”(213) Colin learns that even if you are a prodigy, the future is inevitable, the future is a new time and a new chapter in life.
