The song was written about Amy's ex boyfriend, Blake Fielder-Civil, who left her for an ex girlfriend of his. The reference 'Back To Black' may regard to going back into depression and drinking. However, 'black' can also refer to heroin to which Amy was addicted to. The song expresses the anger and feelings of hurt for a betrayal. However, despite this, some of her lyrics imply her strength and that she has remained strong, 'Me and my head high, And my tears dry, Get on without my guy.' When applying this video to Goodwin's Theory, the lyrics are very straight forward and amplify the visuals within the music video of there being a funeral, would could represent the death of her relationship. This song is said to be inspired by 1960's girl group classics and contains powerful vocals and lyrics. What is interesting is within the music video, Amy mourns over a headstone that reads 'R.I.P Amy WInehouse' to which this was edited out following her death in 2011.
