The story “Two Kinds” from The Joy Luck Club, written by Amy Tan, is about a little chinese girl going against her mother’s hopes and desires. Jing Mei, the narrator of the story, is becoming frustrated as her mother proceeds in trying to find her prodigy. The mother tries to force Jing Mei into finding her prodigy and at first Jing Mei wanted to find her prodigy, but as it went on she kept failing, and this frustrates her. The mother came to America after losing everything in china to start a family, and plans to find her daughter's prodigy because she wants her daughter to have a better life than she did.
