“There’s an ambiguity of what that should be that we should do, and then we do something”. Tan talks about how sometimes good intentions turn out differently and possibly go wrong. This made me think back to when I headed for college right out of high school. I had good intentions of staying in for the long haul and receiving a degree. After a semester, I realized that I was no where near ready to be away from home or to be a student. It was hard for me because I knew my dad worked hard for money and by me not going to class, I was throwing that away. I don’t believe that things or ideas just come from nowhere. I am a true believe that things happen for a reason. I believe that God has a purpose for everything. Tan also talks about things that happen from chance, random, and luck. “What are things that you get from the universe that you can’t really explain?”. There are many things in life that come up that we can’t always explain. I give that to the fact that God is above our understanding, therefore, we can’t always comprehend His reasoning. Unlike Tan, I believe these things don’t come from the universe, but from God. The second thing that I don’t agree with in Tan’s talk is when she is talking about coincidences going on. “You think there’s assort of coincidence going on, a serendipity, in which you’re getting all this help from the universe”. I believe that serendipity is when God, not the universe, allows your efforts to be infinitely more productive than they could have without him.
