It’s very interesting because one of the first things I learned about Schumer in her book was that she actually considers herself to be an introvert. This I find to be extremely intriguing considering her choice of career. According to Schumer, she appears to have an entire onstage persona, that’s full of life and entertainment, and fearlessness. However, on the contrary when she is not on stage Schumer claims to be an introvert stating, “Being an introvert doesn’t mean you’re shy. It means you enjoy being alone. Not just enjoy it- you need it. If you’re a true introvert, other people are basically energy vampires. You don’t hate them; you just have to be strategic about when you expose yourself to them—like the sun. They give you life, sure, but they can also burn you…” (Schumer 15). Discovering this truth about Schumer really had me puzzled. How can Amy appear to be so open, vulnerable, outgoing, charismatic, and yet claim to be an introvert? It didn’t begin to make since until I continued to read and search for answers. Which began to make sense once I continued reading her book. Schumer’s time alone is where and how she is able to be and have a professional successful career as a comedian. It is how she thinks, and prepares for her all of her
