Amy Bowman

I hate math. I’ve always barely maintained a low B average. I’m not good at it, and because of this fact I never enjoyed it; therefore, I never tried. My teachers have always been just ‘okay’, and never inspired me to enjoy math. My sophomore year, for honors geometry, my teacher was Amy Bowman. Mrs. Bowman’s wonderful teaching style, upbeat personality, and her patience has helped me to achieve a better understanding in math, and to strive for the best. Mrs. Bowman takes her time in making sure everyone understands the assignment, patiently writes out the steps and numerous examples until we thoroughly understand, and takes time for questions, even if she’s already answered it twice. She gives the class enough time to work on our homework …show more content…
Bowman’s class isn’t all notes and homework; that would be boring. If she notices students eyes glazing over, she allows us a few minutes to talk, stretch, and wake ourselves up. She has a fun personality, makes silly math jokes, and has fun with her class. She’ll take the time to tell the class about herself, and get to know the students individually. She is very personable, upbeat, and positive. Her ability to keep the class on task and productive, but also leave room for fun makes for a positive learning experience, and better focus levels. I’ve really made great strides in my understanding of math this year. I excelled in geometry, and when I recieved her as my teacher for algebra 2, I have done so much better than I have done in previous algebra classes. She took the time to get to know me as a person, and if I ever have any questions regarding what we are learning, I know I can ask her. Mrs. Bowman is the best math teacher I have ever had, due to her patient, and moderate paced teaching style, bubbly and personable personality. She has inspired me to want to excel in math, and has provided me a better understanding and confidence in my ability to do algebra and geometry. I’ve truly enjoyed her class, and hope that I get her again next year for advanced algebra and trigonometry

The desks in the classrooms were set up for collaborative learning which seemed to really work for her students. Mrs. Gaither also did great job in teaching with all the different learning styles so that she could reach each student’s preference. After each assignment, Mrs. Gaither went around to each individual student and went over their answers with the student. Based on what answers they got wrong is where she would focus more attention. I found this style of teacher very helpful to each student because it wasn’t just as a whole.…

Little and her teaching techniques. As a middle schooler I did not think I was learning anything in her class; however, I can now see that I retained a lot of information from Mrs. Little because she constantly had something else we could work on. I also enjoyed helping the sixth-graders answer science questions. I loved watching the students light up the first time they understood something, like the difference between a food web and a food chain. This past week has been extremely busy because they are preparing for ISTEP.…

This year I had the pleasure of teaching a student unlike any other I have ever met. Jamilla Allen is the type of young girl a teacher never forgets. With her sarcastic wit and dry humor, her enthusiasm and persistence in class, and her kind heart, Jamilla has made a lasting impression. Jamilla’s humor may be hard for a novice to pick up on at first. She says things with a completely straight face, making it hard to detect whether she truly means some of the rather preposterous things she says.…

My Junior year of high school was my challenging year, the reason to that is because we had to study for our Act also we had our grad MCAs to take. I must say it was really difficult knowing that we had those two big major tests in the same week. The amount of studying was ridiculous but in my head for a whole two months I was reminding myself that it will benefit me in the future that I need this to graduate. One part I didn 't have to worry was a portion of the MCA like the Algebra part. But the part that was extremely hard for me was geometry.…

I interviewed Dawn Hofsted, a high school math teacher at the Forest Grove High School. When I first walked into the school, the environment felt very different from what I was used to. I went to a private school all my life, the Forest Grove High School felt very big, the hall ways was triple the size of my high school’s hall way; When the kids got out of class, everyone was talking to each other and walking in different directions and the big hall way became very packed and busy. When I got Mrs. Hofsted’s classroom, there were students packing up, going in and out of the classroom, asking Mrs. Hofsted questions about tutoring and make up tests. I saw her interact with her students and observed that she truly care about the well being of her students.…
