Amur Leopard Research Paper

The Amur Leopard or “Panthera pardus orientalis” (www.worldwildlife.org, 2014) is a critically endangered species with around only 30 known still alive. I chose this animal because Leopards have always managed to keep me engaged and keep my attention. I may not have been very knowledgeable on this animal before this project but by the time I’m done I expect to be an expert. In this paper I will cover the habitat of this animal and the types of food it gets, a description of my animal (what it looks like special features etc.), the reason that my animal has become endangered, and the efforts to save/how I see the future for this species.

poaching is a way that people get money and with the high unemployment rate around that area there is many people going out to poach. Poaching is when you kill an animal and skin it to make rugs,coats,bag etc. the people in the surrounding area have began catching fire to the forest, to convert it to grassland, so the fern, which is one of the most important and most used ingredients in most of the dishes and stews cooked in the region. Fact being that this habitat is the only one they have.and the grasslands lack the sources of protection and food that the Amur Leopard requires. Another threat to this species is the lack of genetic diversity (also known as inbreeding). When species have to revert to inbreeding there is a very high risk of disease, and deformity. They also fight the risk of development the area is a very rich area for oil and many are wanting to run a railroad through the area to speed up and increase the amount of transportations. The last hazard for the survival of this species is the lack of effort to prevent any of this from happening. in 2000 the committee of state conservation was abolished when the russian president Vladimir Putin first came to office.
