When I was ten years old, my family went on a mission trip to Tijuana Mexico with Amor Ministries. I was a member of Rockford Spanish immersion program. I was recruited by optometrist’s on the trip to be a translator for the vision clinic. I urged my mom to let me go volunteer with them and she agreed. We went out in a couple vans to a local church. Once we arrived there were 40 people waiting to be seen. I had no idea what I had gotten myself into. Right away one of the doctors grabbed me and put me to work. She taught me how to take a visual acuity test. I quickly had to put my Spanish language skills to practice. However, the day flew by so quickly because of all the people I had seen.
