Amit Rambaran Interview

I had the opportunity to meet an excellent entrepreneur, from whom, I have learned some valuable lessons. I am accustomed to hearing about entrepreneurs and their entrepreneurial roots; along the lines of having someone in their family that has been involved in a business or have owned one. I was glad to be able to interview Amit Rambaran, and get a different perspective on what it means to be an entrepreneur. Amit was not raised in a family which entrepreneurship was much of an option, for two reasons, I just had no been anything anyone in the family had been involved in and it was seen as a risky gamble of a career choice. I personal don’t relate to this, I have been raised in an environment where entrepreneurship along with another path in life is open, being encouraged to …show more content…
Amit hit home when we discussed role models, both of us being avid listeners of hip-hop, found role models in successful, self-made rappers, such as Jay-Z. He expressed Jay-Z’s clothing line Rocawear, was the biggest influence that made him want to try something of his own.
Amit’s decision to start a venture was the classic case of wanting to be his own boss, and find happiness in what he was doing. He was working as a fry cook when he came to the realization of the saying “choose a job that you love and you’ll never have to work a day in your life.” He felt where he worked was poorly managed, and if he were in there shoes he would do a much better job, by not only running a business but enjoying and loving what he did. He felt like just a time slot on a schedule, from this experience, he always valued anyone that ever contributed to his venture. I, myself have first hand experience of feeling like a time slot, working long unproductive hours, in a poor environment. I was employed at a company where the

He was aware it would be difficult but had his mind set. There a time in someone’s life that they can look at it and realize it’s just not right. The path they are taking needs a change. It’s like they have walk so many years with a blind fold over their eyes and in seconds it falls, to realize they have not done anything productive with their lives. Their quick decisions to make changes in their life reminded me of Mel Robbins from TED Talk “How to Stop Screwing Yourself”.…

Refection: The Unconventional Guest Speaker In Business 101, as a class, we were introduced to various guest speakers, who worked in some aspect of business. The guest speaker, who stood out the most, was Jared Loftus. Unlike the majority of guest speakers who discussed how great their company is and their success, Loftus took a different approach. Instead of focusing on his success, he discussed his “failures” in depth, which (in my opinion) was the most important lesson of all.…

He then applied for the job and was hired by a black women named Penny Jenkins. In his first day, he had to clean out a very dirty side yard. He didn’t like penny that much either. He said “And a thousand times during the week I promised myself I would give her a week of work that only my father could surpass and then, come Saturday night, get my pay and tell her to kiss my ass” (142). As he mentioned, he worked as hard as he could, because he wanted to show Jenkins that he was worth something.…

I agree with the author of Hip Hop Fashion, Masculine Anxiety, and the discourse of Americana, Nicole R. Fleetwood. Although I don’t regularly listen to hip-hop, it’s evident to even me that within the community there are several unspoken rules that must be followed to make it in the industry. In regards to fashion, the author discusses the way in which style and aesthetics are presented in hip-hop. The author goes on to write how an obsession to keep up this aesthetic is then brought forth, so much so that the “look” of hip-hop becomes the focal point. In both lyrics and music videos, the idea of having a lot of money and being able to afford nice clothes, cars, and houses is presented constantly.…

One of the marks of a good entrepreneur is their ability to recognize opportunity where other people miss it. But entrepreneurial people sometimes come along and develop products or services that change the course of business. They ignore the naysayers, and they break the boundaries of the norm. As the DJ would scratch and spin their records, you would have “wordsmiths,” which are known today as an MC, would step up to the microphone and begin rapping to either get the crowd hype or get a message across. Hip hop started underground due to the audience it initially attracted, until The Sugar Hill Gang made “Rappers Delight,” which allowed hip hop to spill into mainstream and commercial radio. This track became an anthem in dance clubs everywhere for the next year. More than just a novelty, the track became hip hop genres first top 40 hit on Jan. 5, 1980 (Frost 5). Do you remember MC Hammer’s baggy “parachute” pants, or Chuck Taylor’s converse, or maybe even 2-Pac’s camo combat pants? You’d think these styles would be long gone, rightfully so, but these styles are some of the many being “brought back to life”. This decade has seen a number of fashion standouts… cough… Miley Cyrus… cough… Lady Gaga, but no one has made a bigger impression on the fashion industry than, you guessed it, Kanye West. Kanye’s laid back, comfortable style, baggy t-shirts and even baggier pants (pulled up knee high), have caused other celebrities with completely different careers like Justin Bieber or even Floyd “Money” Mayweather to adopt it.…

Hip-hop is arguably the biggest influence on today’s youth. Being born in the 1990’s, I was able to witness the positive and negative influences hip-hop has had on my generation, as well as be a part of the audience that has brought hip-hop to be as prevalent around the world as it is today. Now, as the artists of my generation were raised by hip-hop, these same artists will be responsible for the future of hip-hop. I did not always like hip-hop, so my first impression of it came with a bad taste. I remember as a kid I was too young to know the difference between genres, or understand music as a whole for that matter.…
