It was a thrilling drama with life changing for me. I felt the pain of the Africans in this movie. If this was the movie The Wizard of Oz, then the Africans would be Dorothy and they would simply only want to go home. I could feel the emotion from the actors. Whenever I watch movie, I always try to imagine myself as one of the characters to better understand it. I place myself in the situation to better relate, and while doing that while watching this film, it made me feel grateful. I am very grateful for the life I am able to live because of the strong black people that scarified their freedom for us to have a …show more content…
The movie deals with slavery and the mistreatment of them. After watching the movie I learned something new. I knew that slaves dealt with a lot of torture, but somethings on the movie painted such a more vivid outlook on it. In one scene of the movie, the white sailors put heavy rocks in a net. At first I just assumed it was to act as an anchor. I was in away right, but I had no idea that they would tie slaves to it to drown them. It was so unbelievable to see them murder someone so easily like that. I had always assumed that every African was enslaved and wasn’t murdered until their slave owner killed them. Little did I know that some of them didn’t even live long enough to make it to America? I had always assumed many died from sickness, and things of that nature. That scene definitely opened my eyes, and just provided a great example of the agony that come with being African America. We can talk on and on about slavery in class but that’s just talking. I believe the class needed a visually to fully understand, and that is what that movie gave

It is impossible for a white person in the novel to understand the effects of slavery. They cannot feel the pain behind the experience and what it does to a person. For example, it is impossible for some white people to understand why Sethe killed her child. They put her in jail for it, yet perhaps somebody who has experienced slavery could understand her reasoning behind it. This excerpt touches not only on this subject, but also the inability for a white man to admit to his part in slavery in both metaphorical and visual ways.…

The horrors of segregation, the Civil Rights Movement, and the struggle against oppressors all brought to light the darkness and hypocrisy behind the flag which stood for equal rights for all. The part which frightens me the most is the fact that we thought we progressed as a nation past racism, yet the recent rumblings in the political and social sphere show that we still have much work to do. In Eyes on the Prize, Emmett Till, nonviolence with MLK Jr., and white culture are topics which stood out to me the most for early reaction towards the documentary. The image of Emmett Till and his brutally mutilated body under a picture of him smiling will forever be burned into my memory.…

With the debates of slavery revolving the nation, the nation grew sectionalized from the time slaves were introduced during the colonial days. Secession of the South and other states was caused by the election of Lincoln whom they believed wanted to emancipate slaves and destroy the antebellum way of life, one of their fears portrayed in this film. A scene to capture this fear is the green tint scene as the Cameron family interact with their ‘happy’ slaves on the plantations which then proceeds to the slaves dancing. Moreover this scene shows particularly the view of Southerners and how they defended pro slavery through claims that their slaves were happier in how they sang and stayed loyal to them a view that was opposed by the North when Uncle Tom’s Cabin was published and increased the abolitionist voice. This all was before the Civil War when Lincoln would be elected as seen in the intertitle in an orange tint “If the North Carries the Election the South Will Secede”.…
