Amir’s inaction when Hassan was getting violated is understandable and forgivable because Amir was still very young. First of all, the narrator was only thirteen years old when this happened. He was in a situation where he didn’t know what to do to save Hassan, so he just waited and accepted the aftermath. If Amir was older, it would be unforgivable because he would have enough experience and self-control to know what to do in this kind of situation. Second of all, he didn’t want to stand up for Hassan because he was scared of the consequences. He could’ve tried to do something, but he would suffer some consequences, like getting beaten up by Assef’s squad. Amir was a coward.
