If a pool made you sick, would you go back in and swim in it over and over? Probably not. However, swimmers who swim for a club or swim for the high school swim team have no other option than to practice in the same pool. This is a problem that is occurring in the Ames Municipal Pool, where I swim for practice each night and on Saturday mornings. Kids are getting bumps from the Ames Municipal pool water all over their arms and legs and bloody noses from the air in the pool area. Coughing and red stinging eyes. According to www.thecityofames.org/ the Ames Municipal Pool was constructed in 1965, over 50 years ago. A regular pool only lasts for about 20-30 years before the city shuts it down because of water issues, bad air quality, and other health threats that are wrong with the pool. But, the City of Ames refuses to build a safe, clean pool for the Ames swimmers. The city of Ames needs a new swimming pool for swimmers in clubs, the highschool swim team, and any citizen with a membership who wants to exercise. …show more content…
ACAC, or Ames Cyclones Aquatics Club swims in the Ames Municipal Pool every night. When kids get out of the water, they often walk over to the window and get a breath of fresh air because they can’t from the regular pool air. Spectators cough as they watch the brutally hot swim meets that happen once or twice a year at the Ames pool for club swimmers, and almost 5 for high schoolers. Parents often times don’t come to watch their children swim or only stay in the pool area for their swim, then go outside to get some

In the piece, “Pool Players,” George Rose paints in a style that at first glance appears to be almost abstract. But quickly, figures appear that give a sense of very intense movement. People are surrounding a pool table, leaning in for a shot, reaching out over the table, resting along the side, or straining over to see the result of pool balls colliding with one another. The view of the table is seen not at eye level or from above the pool table, but somewhere in between.…

3.3.1 Barriers and Enhancers towards Swimming The barriers towards swimming at FLSHS are that most students don’t enjoy the sport mostly because they haven’t done it before as the school only provides a swimming carnival once every year which only a low percentage attends, there are classes that provide swimming to HPE extension students and years 11-12 only and some students suffer from paranoia about their body image. However some ways to enhance the attendance to swimming carnivals are to provide swimming lessons to core 10 HPE classes so they can experience how enjoyable, healthy and social the sport is. Another enhancer; while the students have a swimming class, is to separate the students who know how to swim and the students who don’t know how to swim, so that the students who don’t know how to swim, don’t feel embarrassed and intimidated by the students who do know how to…

The day seemed to drag on and on, as I waited, counting down the days to California. It was a humid, sunny afternoon down at the Alton pool, where I usually spend most of my summer days working as a lifeguard. Today was very different than most…. And maybe the reason why was because it was my last day of work before I flew off to the big L.A. Most days at the pool the time went by slower than any I have ever known, with the scorching hot sun burning my skin, and little kids yelling at their friends telling each other secrets or what they want to play next.…
