Several of my peers asked me why am I doing AmeriCorps now? I gave them a simple answer “because I can” I thought I was rare but there is a large amount of AmeriCorps VISTA’s like me.
Currently, I am volunteering at the Rowlett Chamber Foundation. I assisting the Rowlett Community with disaster relief efforts from the December 26,2015 tornado. I am collaborating with local community leaders to assist the homeowners.
Throughout the years I listen to people stories and realize they are my heroes. I don’t look up to a particular person as my hero I look up to several people as my hero For Example Desmond Blair who can paint portraits with no hands. Come on – I can not draw circle. Blair overcame the odds with no hands. Roger Arliner Young the first black American female to receive a doctorate in Zoology in 1940. Ms. Young journey was not easy but in the end she accomplished her goal. These are the people I look up to.
When I complete AmeriCorps VISTA I will focus my career on organizations assisting people and communities that experience catastrophe, from accidents, war or nature that caused drastic life change or loss of life. This is a passion of I will feed the
