This has been mostly caused by the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the financial crisis. It is apparent that the reputation and influence of America on the world stage has fallen an we no longer have the overwhelming influence on world politics we had between the end of the Cold War and the beginning of the War in Iraq. The influence of many American ideals (including democracy, freedom, and human rights), have been harmed by our decision to invade Iraq. The financial crisis has hurt American ideas about the economy and the greatness of free markets. Since the wars and the financial crises, when the president or Secretary of state talks about the importance of freedom and free markets, countries think that this is just rhetoric that America touts but doesn't live by herself …show more content…
This has lead to U.S. borrowing large amounts of money from foreign nations (Snyder), which also probably hurts our standing worldwide. I think that many of the problems that have lead to America beginning to decline is because of American complacency following the fall of the Soviet Union. America needs to realize that it has problem that need to be fixed. If they do this and work to fix these problems, America will continue to be a major superpower and it will reverse course in the few places where it has declined. In conclusion, the financial crisis and lack of strong recovery after the crisis have not caused America to lose the advantages that they have had over other countries militarily, technologically, educationally, or culturally. We are still the only superpower in the world.. So far I see nothing that would point to an overall decline, much less one that we could not
