The focal purpose of the article ‘Americans get an ‘F’ in religion’ by Cathy Lynn Grossman is to explain how ignorant Americans are when it comes to other religions around the world and their own. Religion is a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs; a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons and sects. There are numerous varieties of state grade school testing, for example in the state of Florida, elementary, middle, and high school students take the FCAT( Florida Comprehension Assessment Test) which measures your intellectual capacity of reading and math, and assesses the ability of your writing skills. From an individual stand point I can state that, my education throughout grade school mainly comprised of ways on how to effectively take test and how to execute the FCAT. Although public school systems are not solely to blame for Americans’ ignorance in religion, they must take some type of responsibility because they teach math and reading test. They don’t teach you how or why it’s important to understand someone else’s practices or beliefs on why or how we exist; they rather focus on numeracy and literacy. Given the 1963 Supreme Court decision, schools are still “terrified” to teach the bible because they do not want to violate the decision that was made which states that you cannot take part in bible reading for devotional purposes,
