Requirements for the individual citizen include interest, discussion, motivation, knowledge, principle and rationality. Democratic citizens are expected to meet all of these requirements, yet many do not. Democratic citizens lack full knowledge on political affairs either because they are uninterested, unattached, or they may have not been fully informed. Voters don’t usually vote for principle,however they vote for what they mostly feel comfortable with, the sides they believe, or tradition. Rationality means to be sensible or reasonable. Democratic citizens are expected to be rational with their votes, and base them off of knowledge and principle.
