In this day in age, politics is not prioritized by the majority of Americans. Many do not know how many senators there are per state, how many states there are in the United States of America, what is Roe V Wade, and can not recognize important figures in our government, as shown in the ABC news story on uninformed voters. The root of this issue is based on the fact that although there are many and various ways of obtaining information about the government and its functions, many do not care to seek it. As stated in the video, in the practice of democracy, citizens are “personally responsible” for their government. With lack of support and participation, people are willing to be controlled and be told what to do instead of figuring it out for themselves.…
In a Democracy it is important to have frequent elections where all adults have the availability to participate. Until recent history the United States had mechanism put in place where some groups of society had multiple obstacles. Mechanisms like poll tax and literacy tests were given to reduce the number of minority voters. Individuals were even disfranchised and had no capability to vote. Devices and mechanisms able to break the burden of disfranchisement had first began in 1965 when a group of peaceful marchers traveled to Selma, Alabama, to the state capital of Montgomery to push and promote legislation for the creation of new voting rights legislation.…
In “The Vanishing Voter”, he discusses the impact nonvoters have on society. Patterson’s goal is to persuade citizens to participate in voting and to educate nonvoters to realize voting is something that all citizens should be included in. Patterson wrote “The Vanishing Voter” to make Americans more aware of their impact on the world.…
I completely agree with you, Zeke. Low voter turnout is definitely a problem since it doesn’t represent all citizens. Americans today do not realize how much freedom they have as an American citizen. Also, if citizens don’t want to participate in elections then they should not complain about the outcome.…
Voter turnout in Texas is among the lowest in the nation. Age, education, demographics, gender, race, and wealth are just a few key factors put into play when researching why people choose not to vote. There are many things that can be done to increase the voter turnout in Texas as well as many reasons as to why it is so important for citizens to vote in national, state, and local elections. Age is an important factor in voter turnout. Younger adults are less likely to vote while older adults are more likely to vote.…
Prior to this past April, politics had not ever peaked my interest. However, in April I turned 18, making me a legal voter in the United States. Naturally and subsequently, I made the decision to begin looking into the world of politics. With the television at my disposal, I began using it as a source of better understanding the type of political culture I am living in. Every country offers its unique set of values and part of those values is what makes up the political culture.…
Over the years, voter turnout has been declining. The national voter turnout has been drifting around fifty percent, and somehow it is even lower in Texas. Voter turnout in Texas being beneath the national level does not just influence the picture of the people yet it additionally influences the state. Supporting a particular candidate in an election is imperative yet it's most certainly not enough, it is considerably more critical, nonetheless, that the people of Texas vote on Election Day. Voter turnout is "the proportion of the eligible citizens who actually cast their ballots in an election".…
The majority of the youth in California have not been active and turning out to vote, while the state and county elections greatly affects them. Elections and votes result into what the future of California will look like and its citizens, which is the youth’s and college student’s future as well. The question I aim to research and write on is, why not turnout to vote if they care about their personal future in California? There is a large population of youth and college students in California, while the voter turnout in elections continues to decline rather than increase. I aim to research this puzzling question and make an argument on this phenomenon.…
The Voice Of America in Chains Voting is a large part of what America is today. “Government of the people, by the people, for the people”. The voice of the people is what makes the big decisions in America and mostly through choosing who will represent us in our government in elections. This makes the vote valuable, because it has the power to make decisions and change outcomes. Although many will argue that Mandatory voting will provide a better representation of the Consensus, it will actually demote civic virtues and limit individual freedoms.…
A troubling story that has not gotten much attention this election season — or any recent one, for that matter — is why a certain group of roughly 5.3 million Americans won't be allowed to vote. It isn't because they're underage or non-citizens or mentally incompetent. It isn't because they're unregistered or physically unable to get to the polls. It isn't even because they're limping around with a chronic case of political apathy.…

The highly coveted civil liberties and rights given to citizens of the United States are the cornerstone of American democracy and are the factors that make it a unique entity in the landscape of modern government. The liberties put in place by the Founding Fathers during the revision of the Articles of Confederation ensured government power was limited to establish a self-governed government. The citizens of this government have an obligation to act to protect their liberties and rights in order to avoid a tyrannical rule. These rights and liberties need to be preserved beyond voting in federal, state and local elections by practicing vigorous activism, protesting and by being an informed citizen. The liberties and rights…
Each individual in this world doesn’t just represent themselves but their family, schools, neighborhood, race, religion, state and nation. Because we are the people that make up America, we all represent it and it represents us. When we are not able to meet with other nations to discuss important global issues our government meets with them and most importantly our President. They represent and speak on behalf of the people and the nation of America. This past electoral process was a long-debated situation, trying to decide who should represent the American people as President of the United States.…
Reasons for low voter turnout could be a procedural one like voter registration barriers or it could be an ideological reason such as political efficacy of potential voters. That is not to say that all of the factors contributing to low turnout are to be considered equal in their accountability. In order to increase voter turnout and get more citizens to cast thier ballots, reforms must be made. Voter registration should be more accessible to the public and easier to complete; a system should be created where all eligible citizens are registered, like a state-initiated system, but allows the proper authorities to keep track of the voter registration lists. Since it would be difficult to change the winner-takes-all system the nation has now, seeing that there is only one seat for the presidency, the public’s faith in their electors should be strengthened by making it so that the electors would have to take the majority vote into account, which would raise their political efficacy in the election process.…
1936: 1. The digest mailed out ballots to people who they found on identifiable lists, such as their subscribers. However, they failed to realize that these markers they used to find potential survey respondents were not representative of American voters, in fact they were only a small percentage of the voting population. 2. Non-response bias: The individuals who don’t respond are very different than those who do.…
