Soldiers deserve honor and recognition for defending the freedom of the United States. Because they risk their lives so other Americans do not have to, we rightfully thank soldiers for their service. People generally regard honoring soldiers as respectful, and demonstrates that Americans value the soldier’s sacrifices for our country. However, for some people commending soldiers often includes more about their own personal gain and self-esteem than about respecting the soldier. Some people use honoring soldiers as an excuse to boost popularity, increase personal satisfaction, and worst of all, to make money.…
“Honor to the Soldier, and Sailor everywhere, who bravely bears his country’s cause. Honor also to the citizen who cares for his brother in the field, and serves, as he best can, the same cause” (Lincoln). In 1863, during the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, expressed his gratitude to the whole nation, honoring soldiers who stood up to protect the rights and the country and those civilians who supported those veterans. As Lincoln wrote a letter to veterans, people and the government at that time started to recognize veterans’ effort and work because they knew that veterans sacrificed their lives to protect their country. As a result, the US government not only celebrates Veteran’s Day, but also makes memorials…
A veteran comes back from the war in Vietnam. Some people thank him for his services and some people dishonor him for what he did in the war. Many people treat veterans with disrespect because of what they did during their time in combat or even what they did when they came back. Returning veterans or people get treated with either honor, mental help, or with disrespect but mostly disrespect and mental help.…
All veterans are the same, but there are many different types of Veterans. There are war veterans, they are known as Government Issue made to go to any other country…
We in what way are out veterans not important. They have been there ever since the revolutionary war all the way up to now. Either they are fighting for our freedom or against people who have made wrong decisions to attack us. They have been the brave men and women who have and will lay down their lives in order to protect the country that they love and keep us safe and protected. We look up to them as brave individuals who will lay down everything to keep our rights and freedom.…
We give credit to the veterans for helping keep the U.S. safe. We will respect everyone for their loyalty to this country. My grandfather was in World War II and he talks a lot about it. He was in the air force and he tells me all the amazing things he would do in the air. My grandparents moved a lot because he would…

“No person was ever honored for what he received. Honor has been the reward for what he gave.” This is the truth of many soldiers who have fought daily to keep peace in our own country. Our country involves itself in issues to help achieve overall tranquility in this world. These soldiers who gave their lives for us, for planet Earth to live on, are often forgotten or brushed to the side, particularly by younger generations.…
Matthew Wilson Mrs. Dee Period 4 22 February 2016 Government policies for Military Veterans Our government sometimes does many things for our military veterans that may make life easier on them or reward them for their actions. However, there are also some issues with these benefits or the lack of there of. Some veterans struggle to make it by when they get out of the military.…
Veterans are great role models to the youth of America from the past and in the future. They become role model because the military molds them into great men and women. Then they are discharged. When discharge these men and women go into the public and become are role…
Most stereotypes are wrong, and based on Satterfield’s article “vast majority of veterans returning from war are healthy and ready to lead and are more resilient emotionally, physically, and spiritually than their non-veteran peers.” The truth of the matter is, the media has majority of the public fooled into believing that vets are liabilities, when really they are contributors to society. Movies are not all real, they are fictional, and even the ones based on true events are still exaggerated for dramatic effect. If we know this through common sense, then we should be able to combat our own misconceptions, we have about our brave men and women who served for our…
While only a single day out of the 365-day year is devoted exclusively to ennobling our veterans, we, as American civilians must never fail to recognize and reminisce the sacrifices that many of our fellow compatriots have made to shield and safeguard our freedoms. Every single day, our veterans knowingly jeopardize their safety to secure a “port in a storm” for the noncombatants of America. Whether an American veteran has been in a state of deployment, at a time of action or at a time of peace, they are nevertheless unfailing. The veterans of our military services have wholeheartedly dedicated their lives to the well-being of our country and deserve to be recognized for their commitment.…
These service members were promised certain benefits that are essential for their living. There are groups of people that are working to fix this problem but it could take a while. The thing to do is to evaluate all assets of funding to see how much money is available to be used for veteran funding programs and secure those funds in a way that there can't be cuts, so that the authorized people can provide the sufficient amount of funds that are promised to each veteran. By doing this the veterans would have a much higher chance of being helped with their physical and mental medical problems, also it would help them with their daily…
Our gratitude for veterans should not be a one day a year event, but an commitment on every day of every year. There must be no question that this great nation provides the smartest, most talented, and courageous people in the world. By the way we act and care for our veterans, they will know that this nation is trying to keep Lincoln’s promise to care for those “who shall have borne the battle,” and their…
The politicization of war has had unfortunate spillovers into our civilian views of veterans, as people increasingly and erroneously place the responsibility for war on service members themselves, failing to dissociate the policy maker from the public servant whose only commitment is to the defense of a country, not to a particular figure. You need not endorse a war's mission to honor those who made sacrifices in the course of it. No one can provide greater cautions about the dangers of war than those who have borne its personal costs. Again, only through meeting members of the veteran community can we begin to understand their role in society and see them not as subjects of a political debate but rather as paragons of service. For these reasons and more, as civilians we must make a concerted effort to engage our peers who are veterans.…
