When I first saw this painting the first thing my eyes went to is the background I enjoy the American traditional style very much in this oil painting. What I saw next is the names being crossed out I thought it was silly but of course there is a meaning behind it -- history. From there I moved to the tattoo artist and what he is wearing, such a light pink color. Men would not dare to wear pink back in the day. That is when I realized the man he is tattooing is a Sailor. And that's when all emotion went into this painting. The artist achieved a very strong meaning with this painting-- tattoos are permanent just like the names of the five women. First off with the size he used the space nicely the two men in the photo do not cover up the entire canvas and they’re straight in the middle which to me is very pleasing, also, the color in his work they are all realistic, there is not any ‘wacky’ colors or really any that pops out.
