I thought having a painting would be best because usually when people think of Hawai’i they think of the sublime land in which they want to visit. There are many paintings that show the beautiful and breathtaking views all around the Island, but the paintings that show the low-income locations/pollution/construction are not as favored. Therefore, choosing paint as my media is to show a beautiful Island with an ugly truth. Nye, he brings up places like Niagara Falls, and how this place developed the “relationship between America and the Almighty”. They found it to be a holy area. However, finding something sublime can be changed due to personal opinions of what beauty is and what emotions are caused by looking at those locations. It is interesting how as time went by, people would visit Niagara Falls and other places to fall back in love with the land they live on. In this chapter, Nye pointed out that sublimity became a social construction. Traveling to the “American Natural wonders” was a way for a person to feel like a “good
