Just recently it has become popular for the rest of the professional leagues (CNBC.com, 2013). The benefits of tourism and the selling of merchandise will increase revenues for owners. The sport that I feel has had the most success with globalization is soccer, or football for the rest of the world. Soccer is the easiest sport for anyone with a ball and energy can play. It is popular for a lot of countries because everyone knows how to play and the rules associated with the game. Also it is a good way for kids to stay healthy and it is fun to play. As far as the benefits of globalization goes, it opens doors for new fans and creates more interest in the game, which in turn increase profits for everyone. The drawbacks would be the season ticket holders and fans that are missing home games due to location. The merchandise and goods sold at the stadium are decreased. The time needed to travel back and forth can be stressful to everyone. The last drawback could be that the country does not welcome the sporting event in their town and the exposure to the locals. The way globalization will impact sports in the future will be that there will be international teams that will compete worldwide.
