American Sniper Analysis

“Would you be surprised if I told you that Navy has credited you with... over 160 kills?” Chris Kyle served as a Navy sniper during the Iraq war and is known as the deadliest sniper in American History. The movie “American Sniper” is based on the biography Chris Kyle wrote with the same name. In “American Sniper” Chris Kyle is played by Bradley Copper who has been in movies such as “Hangover”, “Limitless”, and “American Hustle”. “American Sniper” was directed by Clint Eastwood who served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953. Clint Eastwood has directed films such as “Million Dollar Baby”, and “Unforgiven”. “American Sniper” is able to exquisitely portray the impact war can have on relationships like Chris and Taya Kyle’s. Another thing “American Sniper” excels at according to Jon Davis who himself served in the Iraq war “American Sniper” is able to show accuracy and details about war that other films such as “The Hurt Locker” and “Brothers” are unable to do. “American Sniper” is based on the life of Chris Kyle. In a military movie like this, it is essential with how complicated the themes can get to make it well organized so the viewer is able to follow along and not get lost. I like the fact that the film resolved the story about Mustafa by having Chris take an impossible 2,000-yard shot to kill him. This was a satisfying ending and very well thought out to have a sniper be killed by another sniper. One of the only things I do not like about this film though is leaving unresolved what happened to Zarqawi and the Butcher. By doing that it leaves a big question mark as to what happened to the group led by Zarqawi and the Butcher after the film
