Thomas Bulfinch stated that, “Without a knowledge of mythology much of the elegant literature of our own language cannot be understood and appreciated”. Many fables of mythology were the first attempts of humanity trying to explain reality. These stories were created to shape society, nature, and to teach lessons. Fables said through generation to generation to explain truth. A truth that is twisted, contorted, and bent with unintentional bias and then colored in with the perspective of an individual. Society associates myths with falsehoods. Modern civilization describe myths and truths as absolutes. Not understanding the origin or purpose of the story. However, the concept of what is myth or fact is relative to the definition of a myth.
According to Dictionary.com a myth is, “an unproved or false collectie belief that is used to justify asocial institution”. This definition shows how the creation of a myth is depending on the outlook of our society. Merriam-Webster states, “a myth is a popular belief or tradition that has grown up around something or someone”. My name is not unique, it's not original and its not special. However, it stands for a story in which its only validity is questionable, but admirable. The story is that the name Napoleon Santana is the name of all my forefathers. For every generation past me the first son’s name is Napoleon Santana.
