There are around 25 species of roaches in the state of Alabama. A common roach is the American roach or also known as Periplaneta americana.They are in the kingdom of animalia. They have the nickname of the water bug. Although they are not aquatic The American is originally for Africa and migrated here hundreds of years ago. Their original habitat for american roaches were in hot and humid places but have adapted to cold places. Americans are a reddish brown color with antenna. Females have shorter wings than males, males wings go past there abdomen. They are around 1.5 inches long. The female lives about one year, long enough to lay eggs.The eggs are laid in bean shaped sacks hidden under things to protect them. The length of the egg stage varies from 29 to 58 days. …show more content…
The are and average of 800 eggs born every year.After the normal roach reaches adulthood the longest they can live is 786 days. These roaches eat human and pet food, which are a problem for humans. Outdoors, American roaches eat leaves, tiny wood particles, fungi and algae. The length of the American cockroach’s life is dependent upon environment, diet and other conditions.In good conditions the population will grow. They have three stages of life, egg, nymph, and adult. They are common in apartments and homes in cracks and crevices. They are the largest household infesting bugs. The bugs are attracted to food laying around and bad sanitary or cleanliness. Most people used pesticides to keep these roaches from infesting homes,apartments, etc. In homes they are found in dark, warm and moist areas, They are also common around the manholes and
