In July of 1776 they helped declare the United States of America an independent nation. They were everyday citizens who did not always have a lot. Considering that, with all the taxation the British was doing, it affected them more than anyone. The founding fathers; Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, George Washington and many more, were the leaders of the revolution. They believed that people have rights that the government cannot take away, like property and that is exactly what the British Crown was doing to the people. When it came to Parliament, colonists did not have a voice, therefore England should not be able to tax colonies. One other thing that drove Patriots to fight against The Crown was the British personnel causing violence, riots, and death. The Boston Massacre and Boston Tea Party are examples of the British Crowns doing. “The Patriots wanted freedom from British rule because didn’t think they were treated well. The British kept introducing new taxes and laws and the colonists had no representatives on the government – which lead to unrest and calls for “liberty”. Patriots did not want to be ruled by the British any longer.”
