American Red Cross Mobile Hospital Analysis

I hope you are well; I know I am. As of now, the American Red Cross has assigned me to a mobile hospital (Mobile Hospital No. 1) in Coulommiers, a commune located in the Seine-et-Marne department. Here, we treat the men who’ve been severely injured in the battle at Belleau Wood. Both professional nurses and volunteers work together here to minimize casualties. We all hope to greatly reduce the devastating impacts of war, although the frequent visits from Boche aviators make that a bit difficult for us. Now and then, I think about what our lives would be like if we went back to Italy and helped the war efforts there. However, we are American, and so we shall thus serve America. It is very fortunate that Italy decided to join the Allies.

Things are going alright where I am. The Red Cross recently issued uniforms for us, which consist of a dark blue skirt, cape (lined with red and the insignia on the left side), long coat, and felt hat along with caps and brassards. The professional nurses working here are very strict toward us volunteers, but that

General Pershing is a fine leader, and I’m sure he will make all of the right decisions, but war is deadly and anyone can fall victim to it. Not only that, but I am concerned for the well-being of my mother and uncle; they’re getting , more than anything. My heart aches for home; the moment I get back, I will embrace you all and tell you more about my experiences. I can’t remember the times when I didn’t see gore everywhere I went, or when I didn’t know the pained sounds a human could make or the pungent stench of death. But I feel as though I as a duty to fulfill, just as you felt when you enlisted for the army. I wish you well, Savio. Stay strong. Be brave. The fighting will be over

I hope this letter finds you and the rest of the family in good health. My parents and I are doing well, but we continue to worry and pray for our friends and neighbors who are either serving in the Union or have loved ones who are serving. My friend James was considering enlisting as a private in the New Jersey regiment, but a letter from his friend, George B. Wright urging him not to enlist has James reconsidering his decision. In the letter, George talks of the fatigue, and in his words, “your health would break down before you had been in service a month” (Lurie pg. 160).…

When a person is at his or her lowest point, the only thing they have is their belief system. What a person believes in shapes the way he or she lives their life. While receiving the Sylvonus Thayer Award, General Douglas MacArthur addresses his audience with words that will most likely stay within their hearts for their life. He reminds his fellow soldiers of the words that kept them going through every battle, and stresses it by a number of literary devices, such as imagery, repetition, and pathos. He additionally employs allusion and anecdotes to provide a more in-depth speech.…

“Until the Last Trumpet Sounds the Life of General of the Armies John J. Pershing” by Gene Smith was brilliantly written and dramatically effective work of history. Smith was able to capture factual information on the life and career of John J. Pershing. Just like most biographies they are dry factual information, this book followed that as Smith seem to want to give more of a laundry list of activities, letters, and inane facts. Although, the life and career is not a topic discussed as in-depth as some of his fellow generals, however, it is a topic that deserves the attention shown to it by Smith. Smith, known for his works on several American leaders, most notably his book on the last years of Woodrow Wilson, attempts to tackle the life…

Thus, I enrolled in a volunteering program at Greenwich Hospital in order to not only encounter a doctor’s working environment, but also to serve the patients who are a member of my community in Greenwich. In the hospital my job can range from sorting and arranging hundreds of mails, escorting patients, helping with maintaining hygiene, to sending flowers to the patients. According to my supervisor and the volunteers’ website, there are approximately a total of 700 volunteers who the staff believe to be the unsound heros of the hospital. Due to the number of volunteers, the staff assign us to different sections of the hospital within which assigning to be an escorter is one of my favorite as it allows me to encounter patients and doctors from different departments. Gradually from observation and conversation with many of the doctors in the hospital and some of my father’s friends I perceived the drudgery, the stress, the paper works, the coordination, the management skills that are necessary for surviving in this field after having endured the hardship of medical school.…

For all the vividity of my imagination, I cannot truly know what it would have been like to fight in the Italian Civil War. A standard history textbook does nothing to further my understanding of what fighting in that terrible war within a war would have been like, for while it is filled with numerical facts and data, it does not speak to the realities of fighting in war. War is a collection of the countless motivations and actions of every soldier, nurse, and civilian involved in the conflict. For that reason, to truly understand what it must have been like to fight in the Italian Resistance, one of the least unified entities fighting in the Second World War, it is vital to read individual accounts of the conflict. Reading a singular account…
