5. Rape-intolerant cultures are cultures were rape is illegal. This happens to be in places in most of the western world. However, there are some places that in the western world and other parts of the world that do nothing against rape. The only culture that I really know about is the American culture so this response will focus heavily on the American cultures response to rape, which more than likely will also be the cases in many of the other places were rape is illegal.

Some of the most popular music and TV shows deal with rape. Sometimes they end up with the rapist getting caught and punished, as in crime shows, but most of the time rape just happens and they go on. This is most common when it comes to rap songs. Some of the most popular rap songs talk about raping women and doing it over and over again. This is bad for the culture because it helps people see that it is ok. While we do punish rapist once they are convicted, a lot of other rapists go free and this type of music says that it is fine unless you get caught, and even encourages it. With society not really doing anything to make it stop it just adds to the idea that rape is cool and …show more content…
We often times treat victims without much sympathy. When someone reports a rapist they then have to pick them out of a line up, and testify against them. That brings all the pain and shame back to them. One of the ways that this could be eradicated is if the raped victim can see the rapist but the rapist can’t see them during the lineup. But also if it when it come to the time to testify they do it recorded rather than face to face with the rapist. Some, places where rape is illegal even imprison the victims because they refuse to testify or had sex outside of marriage. The treatment of victims is often times what may make a victim not come forward about being raped because they do not want it to be any more painful than it already

Rape victims are still silenced by the system, they are degraded, humiliated and not taken seriously. Many men and women are afraid to report rape because they are afraid of being disregarded. If changed, the crime of rape might be lessened, because it is my belief that rapists trust that the government’s patriarchal system is on their side, protecting them. Even if all rape cases were taken seriously and actions were taken against rapists, the crime would still occur, as all crimes do, but it might be a safer place for victims, if they knew they had the government fully on their…

Rape survivors do not report their rape or sexual assault because they don't have enough proof or evidence, they don't believe justice would be served or if the justice system would even do anything, or they fear the justice system. Brock Turner was convicted of sexually assaulting a woman who was unconscious. He was only sentenced for six months and he only served three months because of good behavior. Turner was able to get the light sentence because if the survivor was unconscious or heavily intoxicated, the perpetrator can get less time in jail (Bever and Wang). This isn’t only rape cases where the survivor was intoxicated.…

Rape is a crime, with maximum number of 25 years for the perpetrator. And yet some individuals place the blame for the rape on the person being sexually assaulted, and not on the perpetrator. Society plays a big role in blaming victims for rape. Everything depends on how society perceives each individual, because they get to categorize who they blame when it comes to rape. There are three beliefs to why an individual would want to blame the victim: hostile sexism, benevolent sexism and belief in a just world.…

Attitudes and actions within society reflect the normalization of sexual assault and violence. Rape culture is present in the daily lives of all Americans, whether it be a young woman being cat called on the city streets or a tolerated joke about rape. Social codes are a vital part of this attitude. Men are taught to be dominant and their violence and aggression is condoned because it is considered their nature. There is a culture in which young men are taught to score, get laid, bang or screw; all terms which are inherently violent and do nothing to include the consent vital for sex.…

Rape culture can be defined when assault is rampant and normalized due to social attitudes about sexuality and gender. Similarly, a hookup culture encourages casual sexual encounters instead of long-term commitment (Katz). Both terms have begun to take away from the harsh realities of rape and instead draw all attention to the idea of a “culture”. The way hookup culture promotes rape culture can be easily seen if one begins to look. Hookup culture is centered around one night stands, most of which involve alcohol and/or drug use.…

Rape culture is very common in today’s society. Examples of rape culture are everywhere and have slowly made its way into everyday life that it is almost invisible. In definition, rape culture is a culture in where rape or sexual violence is condoned or normalized, but deeper in the definition there are other subjects such as victim blaming, objectification and much more. It is when the victims are told to avoid being raped instead of the rapists being taught to have common sense to respect individuals and not rape. Rape culture exists and is a great problem that needs to be terminated and addressed.…

The cultural construction of rape, or rape culture, is a somewhat misunderstood term in mainstream society. Many people shy away from the expression because it seems at first glance to demonize all men as evil predators. In reality, however, rape culture refers to a much broader social phenomenon that addresses both men and women. In an article for the Globe and Mail, for instance, Jordan Venton-Rublee defines a rape culture as “the environment that puts the onus on the victim, not the perpetrator”. Marshall University Women’s Centre also addresses the concept on their website, establishing that while rape culture does largely refer to victim blaming, it also can be seen more broadly as “an environment in which rape is prevalent and in which…

Rape and its culture have been affecting individuals all around the world, but today I will be focusing primarily on American women, but this does not mean that it only happens to women or only in America either. I have personally been surrounded by rape culture my whole life by having close relationships with victims of sexaul assault and by experiencing sexual assault myself. Rape is simply put as non consensual sex, and rape culture is an environment in which rape is prevalent and in which sexual violence against women is normalized and excused in the media and popular culture, according to Marshall University’s Women’s Center.
