American Politics In The Novel 1984 By George Orwell

The world of American politics is a complicated, tricky system that can easily be manipulated and in the novel 1984 George Orwell shows what that world would look like if that manipulation was taken to an extreme. Theodore Roosevelt once said: “A typical vice of American politics is the avoidance of saying anything real on real issues.” and in the fictional country of Oceania they did just that and then some. Oceania is governed by Big Brother who has complete control of everything that happens within the country. This dystopian society can be compared to that of today’s world in some minor ways. Both societies still seem to have a power that seems to be growing over a period of time. Methods like the telescreen could fit into the daily of lives in America. In North Korea, for instance, they have the same thing as a telescreen where you can not turn it off only turn the volume down and America has a chance of heading down that road. Some Americans in today’s society can be easily fooled into what the government is saying, especially if it is being said by politicians. The American people tend to believe what the media is saying to them so I do believe that these methods could follow through.
All around the world and even here in America we can see that they have used some of the same techniques used in 1984. Some of the methods used in 1984 are used even in today’s world! George Orwell has perfectly portrayed has perfectly portrayed what this country and others would look like as a dystopian society. It just goes to show that anything is capable of happening in the world we live in especially with the events that happened at the end of last year and now.
