American Patriotism And Freedom

America and all it encompasses differs among the world, depending on the person’s circumstance, culture, and nationality, especially among Americans themselves. America can be defined by numerous varied traits, some positive and some negative, two of which I believe encompass the American spirit are patriotism and freedom.
A quality that defines American citizens is patriotism. American patriotism has been identified by many as nationalism based on values rather than commitment to the nation itself. This trait is seen as essential to every citizen, so much so that more than half the population owns a flag or clothing with the flag on it. This patriotism is demonstrated in many different ways; some voluntarily take up arms and risk their lives to secure liberty for themselves and for the rest of their fellow citizens, while others work hard every day at home to create the prosperous land of opportunity for which America is known. The nation itself was founded with by people running away from religious intolerance. Although it means different things for different people, most can agree that it means to have the liberty to act according to your own will without obstructing someone else’s liberty. For example, freedom in America has been manifested in its equal treatment to all people, freedom of speech, and political freedom, referring to the right of citizens to participate in government, all of these regardless of race, gender, nationality, or creed.
