This is supported by the use of facts and studies to show why everyone should know English. In his argument, Raff considers it a disservice to teach English rather than feeding bilingualism. By this, Raff simply means that every time more people get it easier to speak English, it is a boost to the economy. He compares it to fuelling of the fire. Taking Canada as an example, one would realize that ever since Canada became a multilingual country it has been downhill. In Canada, French and English are recognized as the official languages. It is highly noted, “Canada spends millions of dollars everyday printing stuff in both languages (debate.org).” Having one language as an official language saves a country millions of dollars. If Canada had one official spoken language, for instance, they would save so much more money by only publishing public stuff in only one language and be sure that everyone gets the information. America also spends a lot of money printing stuff in foreign languages. If America were to make everything they printed into English they would save a lot of money and not be in a higher debt. For the purposes of saving the taxpayers money, English should be the predominant spoken language in America. If people want to move to America, they should learn to speak
