Very few organizations had the influence and had the control over America’s underworld like the Chicago Outfit. The Outfit was a group of gangsters that were ruthless and they were willing to take any means necessary to get what they wanted. They took over a city and took advantage of a federal law that greatly benefited organized crime. The most famous of all mafia kingpins, Alphonse Gabriel “Al” Capone, controlled the Outfit and had a major hand in making it one of the most powerful organizations for many years.…
MS-13 recently became known in the east coast gang culture. Instead of operating independently from each other MS-13 is beginning to come together as they recognize power in numbers and organization of the gang. By doing this MS-13 has a much tighter organization, stronger structure, and instead of various groups being self supporting, there is one leader. The leader is in charge of member’s payment of the dues and they organize the criminal acts in which members engage. This makes MS-13 vary similar to what has been referred to as “traditional organized criminal families”, similar to the Italian Mafia.…
Sadat Cano Arizona State University Unique Gang In the United States CJS 468 1/2/2015 What makes the gangs in the United States unique is that gang members in the United States are more likely to get arrested for drug and alcohol related crimes than non-gang members. Chicago Chicago, nicknamed the “Windy City” and “Second City”, is one of the most loved cities in the United States of America and now home to hundreds of thousands of people, making it the 3rd most populated city in the U.S.(“Wikipedia”). I picked the show the sopranos for my example of gang culture making its way into America mainstream culture https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1myharpKIE. The reason I picked this is because not only was it a show that lasted many years but it made the mafia in New York seem as if they were the powerhouses of the city. That they were in control of everything that was going on and even glorified the life of a mobster. They portrayed the mafia life as one full of luxury and fun times. They even made the killing of rival mafia members seem cool or necessary.…
(Lombardo 79) With the arrival of Al Capone in Chicago in 1920, he brought with him a brilliant criminal plan that would monopolize the production and sale of illegal alcohol. He was able to coordinate the importation of alcohol from different locations, including out of state and even to Canada. This system included delivery drivers, salespeople, speakeasies and heavily armed gang member to protect the illegal goods. Capone’s mob was not some loose collection of thugs that wanted some quick cash; they were professional gangsters (Lombardo 79). These gangs were run like professional businesses and recruited veteran gangster from other gains to help keep a tight ship.…
Along with the CIA and Cuba, the next most well known theory is that the Mafia and Bobby Kennedy with Jack Ruby had something to do with the killing of the 35th President of the United States. The basic understanding of why this might have happened actually has to do with the election. JFK told the Chicago Mafia that if they got people to vote for him he would leave them alone. This happened, but Bobby Kennedy really pushed to get rid of organized crime (Thomas 14-17). When this started to happen the Mafia was not happy because JFK had made a promise to them.…

He first started talking about how Morello’s story was not known around the world yet. So, he explained how Morello set up crime in New York in the 1900’s. Mr. Morello was well operated before the mafia was even a big deal to screenwriters. Morello ended up getting imprisoned, then murdered.…
