My Experience In An American University

I have been a student of WKU for 1 year and in these two semesters what I have learned and experienced are more than I thought. Before I came to WKU, I knew that WKU is an American University that most of teacher’s native language is English and only speak English in the class. The reasons why I came WKU are I want to improve my English and try to study in the American way. Actually, going through this freshman year, I have learned a lot and changed a lot. The first thing I learned is the importance of participation. At my first day in WKU, school held a party to welcome freshman. The most exciting part of this party is dancing. With the cheerful music, teachers and some students danced happily and they invited some students around them to join them. In my early life, I have never sung songs or danced in public. I stood aside, took photos and watched them dance. When a teacher pulled me to the dancing range and taught me how to dance, I behaved very shy and primly. However, when I integrated into this joyful atmosphere, I felt very happy. As we know, WKU is an English-speaking university. Teachers use English to teach and communicate with students. In my high school, English is not used as a language. The reason why we study English is English will be used on the exam. However, at WKU, English is used as official language so it’s very hard for me to follow what teachers say in the class. Just as a baby, don’t know what the adults say and don’t how to express what I thought. Fortunately, we study many English courses in the freshman year. In these English courses, I learned how to listen clearly, how to speak fluently and how to write a professional essay. At WKU, I truly realized language is very important. If my English isn’t good enough, I will not understand what teachers
