As a kid everyone dreamed of finding a treasure map. This treasure map would lead you through an adventurous path of traps, bad guys, and high speed chases to end at a magnificent trove beyond your wildest dreams. In a round about way this is what the movie Three Kings is based on. The movie was directed by David O. Russell who also had a hand in other movies such as American Hustle and Silver Linings Playbook. It starts off with an army solider finding a document which turns out to be a map that discloses the location of a huge amount of gold stolen from Kuwait. A group of soldiers decide to not brief the chain of command and go off to find the treasure for themselves. As everyone knows being selfish doesn’t pay off and they run into a host of problems one being a member of their group is captured and tortured.

During this scene Troy is asked a multitude of questions, this then leads to Captain Said telling him his wife lost her legs in the bombing and he also lost his son. Troy relates to his captor by telling him he has a one month old daughter himself. As this scene unfolds and the dialogue gets heavy I noticed a bit of sympathy for the captor even though he is set up to torture an American prisoner. The director projects the feelings to the movie goer that there was a reason for the Iraqis to dislike the Americans wether its because of our culture (Michael Jackson’s skin change) or the accidental deaths of their loved ones during the
