The AHA was established in 1899 when a group of superintendents got together to talk about their hospitals and how they could improve them. But at that point, only superintendents could join, and it was known as Association of Hospital Superintendents. The name and policies of the Association changed two more times between the years of 1899 and 1918.
The association is there to make sure that the standards and expectations that the hospitals are looked to hold are meet. They helped create insurance and the Hill-Burton program. The foundation's goals are improved public health and they plan on doing that by preventing type 2 Diabetes and heart disease. They want scientific advancements by bettering educations. And setting high medical ethics.

The association's website has many resources that can help stay on top of ever changing codes. They are also the trademarks holders of the CPT. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is a part of the Department of Health and Human Services. It was established in 1977. The CMS job is to oversee programs like the Medical Market Place and the Children’s Health Insurance Program. They also strive to lower health care cost and improve overall health and modernizing and strengthening the health care system.
Their role in the Health Information Field would be that they are an organization that looks at lowering health care cost, and programs that deal with health insurance. Therefore it affects the billing aspects of the field.
