Recently, I have received information in the mail about a new program offered at Jackson College. The information I received informed me that Jackson College is now offering an American Honors program. As we know, college expenses are increasing as the years go by. This program makes a 4-year, bachelor’s degree affordable to those who may not be able to afford it. The American Honors program is a program offered to students at Jackson College. The same program with a bilateral purpose is also offered at Ivy Tech Community College in Indiana. The program was designed for students to achieve a college education at a much lower cost. The purpose of this program is to assist students from the day they enter the college until the day they graduate in class registration and the transfer process. The goal of the program is to offer college education in a different path than attending a 4-year institution for all four years. American Honors offers assistance to students through scholarships and a full fledge army of useful advisors. It was designed to help students achieve a 4-year institution, but for a much more affordable cost. This allows students to lessen their financial trouble coming out of college because they will attend a 2-year institution for the first part of their degree, then attend a 4-year institution for the final two years of their degree/program. Before this program, she was a Transfer Advisor for 14 years at Jackson College. Given the opportunity to be an Honors Advisor, she described this as a great opportunity. Working with transfer students is what she loves to do (Marrow). She informed me this program is meant for higher achieving students who are pursuing a bachelor’s degree after they complete their associate’s degree at Jackson College. The program is used as a transfer tool and academic advising for students are willing to put in the work. Morrow answers to the Honors Dean at Jackson College and loves her job and the opportunities she provides for the students. I was also informed that some of the academic advisors also teach the honors classes. Morrow, teaches an honors leadership class at Jackson College giving her contact with students she may advise
