American Government Essay

In this paper I will be responding to the second prompt by reflecting on the role of government in American life. I will firstly discuss my personal reasons on why America has a government and satisfaction of the ways government functions. Secondly I will discuss on areas in which I believe government does too much or too little. Lastly I will discuss whether or not a government should focus on morality or economics when deciding public policy. To expand on these points, I will provide examples and issues. To begin we will look at the definition of what the word Government actually means. For example, problems in certain states may not affect other states such as the issue of the Zika Virus. In Dr. Sledge’s panel “Understanding Emerging Threats,” he highlights the area of effect that the Zika Virus has, which, focusing solely on the southern states instead of the northern states. A solution to suppressing the frequency of the virus spreading from the Aedes Aegypti mosquito would be emptying out stagnate water, which are breeding grounds for the mosquito. Suppose a law would be passed that harshly regulated the presence of stagnate water. If it were not for the state and local government, places in the north, where the Zika virus has little to no chance of occurring, could be fined for having still water. But with the presence of the local and state government they can focus on the best solutions for each district like if Texas or Florida wanted to implement stricter laws than places where the Zika virus isn’t as prevalent such as different southern state like New
