American Flag Speech

The American flag has various definitions it just depends on seeing it from someone else’s point of view. While to some it means justice, to others this flag means pride, but to me our flag defines freedom, hope, and much more.

So many years ago Americans fought for what they believed was right. They fought for their freedom, for their rights, for everything that we’ve come to know of today. Our flag represents the independence that was established on July 4, 1776, this was when the Declaration of Independence was signed by the founding fathers, and even though that day was a few centuries ago we still celebrate it today. Of course these are only a few things that can describe the flag of such a marvelous country.

I would like to start my image analysis with the picture called “Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima” by Joe Rosenthal, 1945. I feel that this image shows that even in a time of war American soldiers stood together to put up the flag of the United States of America. Our flag is being lifted to what seems to be about 5 men they have taken time out of their battle to lift the flag. Around these men it seems to be a wreckage around them maybe this area was bombed and everything came down as well as the flag. I feel that they are putting up this flag to represent America and their love for the country of the free and the brave.…

Whether it's passing by homes that are proudly flying the flag on the front porch, going to the beach, or seeing it on clothes and stickers placed on cars. I often wonder if these people know what it represents. If so, why would they bluntly display such a controversial symbol? Due to this controversy, coupled that with the recent police shootings of unarmed African-Americans, and the rising attention on racism in America, last school term my English teacher assigned small…

“American public opinion on the confederate flag remains about where it was 15 years ago, with most describing the flag as a symbol of Southern Pride more than one of racism.” (Agiesta 1) The confederate flag will always be a part of the history in the United States. It has been integrated in the culture for well over a hundred years, and now that all of a sudden a shooting happened everyone wants to blame a flag and remove it based on prejudice or racism. The flag is a symbol of patriots who were trying to protect a country and make sure it remained as the founders of the country intended it to.…

On May 11th, 1858, Minnesota became the 32nd state in the United States of America. With that Minnesota adopted its official state flag in 1893. The flag consists of a total of nineteen stars, three dates, the state flower and a few other things, but the most controversial element is in the middle, which is a Native walking off into the sunset and a white settler staring off into the distance at him. It’s now been over a hundred years and there are several ways the flag should be redesigned.…

For the better of our nation, we must remove the Confederate Flag from public organizations. Innocent black people are falling victim to horrendous attacks by terrorists that support the flag. By removing the flag, we are publicly showing that the nation does not support these ideas. However, people do have the right to fly the flag on their own property due to the first amendment. If our country is going to make positive strides, we cannot sacrifice personal freedom along the way.…

And in this nation, the people have assembled themselves into one race that works together, fights and shows patriotism for this country they call home. Those who take pride in everything done in this country through patriotism love America. For example, every day for about the first 18 or more years of most American lives are used to look at this nation 's colors painted on a flag in a school classroom to recite the “Pledge of Allegiance.” At such a young age most are taught the significance of saying the pledge.…

We as Americans should mostly know what makes America what it is, the cookouts, the hot dogs, burgers, terrible presidential candidates, guns, large military, and most importantly, freedom.
