For 200 years the flag has been a special emblem of the United States. The flag is special enough to constitute a ban on burning. In 1931 the “star spangle banner” became the national anthem. In 1949, Flag Day was created on June 14th. Congress recognized the pledge of allegiance.…

Some people would say that it would be a bad thing to treat the flag with disrespect and others would agree but not agree. This is all because of Johnson that burnt the United States flag in the state of Texas in a public place. I agree, that it was wrong for Johnson to burn the flag because it is the flag that symbolizes unity and freedom and to do that to it. It was also wrong because it was in a public place. But if some people would agree with Johnson because they believe that it was his freedom of speech.…
If the Newseum is torn down, the first amendment will not have a place to be celebrated just for itself, so there will be no place to celebrate the first American Constitutional freedom. President Trump is pressuring Congress into passing a bill that will start a project to make room for new monuments. The project will consist of tearing down monuments that the government feels are unnecessary. The project will ruin DC and the American spirit. If the bill does pass, the Newseum should definitely not be torn down since it is a reminder of what America is, it will have horrible economic effects on the country, and tearing it down will diminish the American spirit.…
Whether people that are for the flag or against it, there will always be different beliefs over this matter. We could all make it a little better if we left the past in the past and moved forward together to help make the future a better place for everyone. We all ought to strive to become people who can get along no matter what the differences are. We all should work together to help show the world how we can work together to accomplish all goals.…
Rocklyn Turano Professor Crowe Composition 1 22 October 2015 The Confederate flag A proud relic among the southern states, the confederate battle flag has been handed down from generation to generation from its once heroic and brave ancestors that fought so valiantly for their confederate colors. The confederate colors should not be limited by the government in any way, but to no avail the government is attempting to take our rights to these historic colors away. To take this right away is a strict violation of the first amendment; “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” Many…
The Civil War was America’s deadliest war, an estimated 620,000 men died during the war (Tylt). The people of this time all felt that they were fighting for what they thought was right, they died for their country. Many people today feel that flying the Confederate flag honors the men who sacrificed their…
The Confederate flag is a symbol that everyone seems to have an opinion on. Some people are disgusted by the flag and claim that it represents hate and racism. These people feel like it should not be flown in public places and should only be displayed in historical museums, away from the public eye. Other people, though, look upon the Confederate flag and see a sense of pride and heritage, and strongly disagree with the accusations that accompany flying this particular symbol. Although the confederate flag is the subject of much controversy, it and symbols representing the Southern States should not be removed from the public eye because remembering the flag helps us to remember the sacrifices that our ancestors made, encompassing the views of an entire race or region based on the actions of a minority of the population only leads to stereotypes and misinterpretation, and reconciling between the different…
“When we honor our flag, we honor what we stand for as a Nation - freedom, equality, justice, and hope.” - Ronald Reagan. The American Flag is the third oldest of National Standards of the world. It’s even older than the Union Jack of Britain and the Tricolor of France. The American Flag was first sanctioned by Congress June 14,1777.…
In the words of the great President Ronald Reagan, “… and let us never forget that in honoring our flag, we honor the American men and women who have courageously fought and died for it over the last 200 years, patriots who set an ideal above any consideration of self. Our flag flies free today…
When i see that flag i think of a country that is filled with hardworking Americans that have the rights that are listed in our constitution and i think about the freedom that the citizens have thanks to the valor of thoes that came before us. The flag shows us that anything can be achivied if you not only believe in something but go out there and work anf fight for it. The flag inspires me to better in my everyday life and makes me want to be great like our past presidents. The flag sparks pain and pokes at deep wounds that are still fresh. The flag brings up memories of the dark past of American history it includes racism, colonialism and white supremacy which all had a big influence on slavery. Even though slavery has always been a part of our human history, the type of slavery that went on for 300 years that Africans were enslaved was a new form that consisted of inhumane treatments, that crimpled the continent of Africa. The unfair and undeserved treatments that African Americans still go through in America, is caused by colonialism and slavery which has influenced the ideology of white supremacy and black…
Yes, the burning of the American flag should be outlawed. Burning the flag, even in protest to make a point, is not respectful to those who served for our country. Some believe that the flag is just another flag and that companies make many flags a day, why is it so important? It is not about the physical flag, it is about what the flag represents. For our country, it represents freedom along with other things.…
