When starting Daily 5 for the first time with a class, it is important to start small and build up from there. Repetition is also very important when beginning Daily 5. It is important to have short practice sessions and then come back together and talk about how it went. This will help the students to nail down a few places that are best for them when it comes to reading independently. On the first day of school the author encourages the teacher to let the students look around and chose a few book they think are good fit books for them.…

I decided to teach a Reader’s theatre piece over the presidents’. I choose this because I am currently enrolled in Children’s Literature and we have been speaking about different reading activities that children can get excited about doing, especially if it’s different genres that wouldn’t be as “interesting” for kids. Currently in my level ones classroom, they were learning about president’s and what they were known for, when they were president, etc. I decided it would be interesting to do kind of two lessons in one and make it a social studies and literature activity.…

Many steps must be considered when creating and preparing an activity plan. Specifically, there is the preplanning stage, activity beginning stage, activity middle stage, and activity closing stage. It is significant to include all of the points within your activity plan to effectively teach a lesson. The teacher must prepare the students for the activity and allow the students to understand what the central ideas of the lesson are. My sophomore year of high school, I was accepted into the Saber’s Marching Pride Flag corps. At my high school, all freshmen are required to play their instruments because the music is the most important part of the show. Also, it requires the kids to focus on marching basics, drill reading, and learning how to roll step, different from the flag corps where they jazz walk. I have performed with flag corps for the last three years which were named: Groovy Baby, Muevas Sus Huesos, Seven years. Prior to this, I was not very athletic and had no dance background.…

I started out my college career as a psychology major, but I plan to graduate with an education degree, and fulfill my dream of teaching children. Throughout this semester I have learned many different things about teaching that will stick with me my entire career. I learned about the teaching and learning process through the course work I was given, the time I spent in the classroom teaching lessons, as well as the times that I sat back and just observed the preschool and elementary classrooms.…

Introduction The time I spent with my student during our tutoring sessions gave me a first-hand experience of how it is like on a student to teacher level. I learned a lot from my student, Kade, as I hope he also learned from me. During this time, I was able to observe his strengths and his weakness. I had to be flexible to cater my lesson plan to my student, so he could build upon what he learned and advance through more challenging activities.…

Lesson planning is a highly important part of teaching. Lesson plans are a teacher’s guide in his or her class room. They outline the learning goals and objectives for a particular lesson or chapter; they may also include the activity the teacher has planned and the supplies they will need to help the students complete that assignment. During my field placement I have yet to see my cooperating teacher plan out her lessons for the week, but it is clear she has a lesson plan. She usually has a lecture planned out for each day and she uses the textbook to outline the students learning objectives.…
